Vanier Scholar and PhD candidate in Film and Moving Image programme at Concordia University

Ilona Jurkonytė as a Vanier Scholar at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) is pursuing a PhD degree in Film and Moving Image programme. Ilona’s background is in philosophy, communication studies, art theory and criticism. Before starting the PhD studies, she has been working as an artistic director for nine years at Kaunas International Film Festival (IFF) and as a film programme curator for two years at the Contemporary Art Centre Cinema in Vilnius. Ilona is a co-founder of Kaunas IFF, which was instrumental in rescuing “Romuva”, the oldest cinema theater in Lithuania. Between the years 2007 – 2010 Ilona, together with Dainius Genys, was in charge of the creative, strategic and administrative parts of this cinema rescue endeavor.
