Sasha Costanza-Chock

Media maker, activist, Associate Professor & Principal Investigator at the MIT Center for Civic Media, and founder of the MIT Codesign Studio

Sasha Costanza-Chock is a scholar, activist, and media-maker. In their research and practice they is particularly interested in the role of various forms of media in community organizing and social movements. They has published a number of books on the topic, including Out of the Shadows, Into the Streets: Transmedia Organizing and the Immigrant Rights Movement (2014). Constanza-Chock is a board member of Allied Media Projects, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that cultivates media strategies for a more just, creative, and collaborative world; and a worker/owner at Research Action Design, a worker-owned cooperative that uses community-led research, transformative media organizing, technology development, and collaborative design to build the power of grassroots social movements.

Constanza-Chock is also an Associate Professor and a Principal Investigator at the MIT Center for Civic Media, founder of the MIT Codesign Studio, and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School.
